Family, partners and students

Bringing your spouse or children, partners of Gibraltarians, and University of Gibraltar students.

Bringing your spouse or children

If you are applying for residency and want your spouse or civil partner to live with you, you must provide an advance deposit equal to the total social insurance contributions payable under your employment contract for the first year.

You can be accompanied only by your spouse or civil partner, and/or your children.

The healthcare and schooling your family can access is set out in your residency.

Unmarried partners of Gibraltarians

If you are the unmarried partner of someone with Gibraltarian Status, you can live in Gibraltar where you provide evidence of a durable relationship of at least two years.

Students of the University of Gibraltar

If you are accepted for enrolment on a full-time academic course at the University of Gibraltar, you can apply for a residence permit as a student.

While you are a student, you can access the benefits of residency, including healthcare through the group practice medical scheme (GPMS). You pay a contribution of £470 a year.

Your spouse or civil partner and your children under 18 can live in Gibraltar with you while you study, if each of them pays the same contribution.
