How to apply

The steps to apply for residency in Gibraltar, from checking eligibility to a decision.

Follow these steps to apply for residency in Gibraltar.

You can complete the application yourself, or an authorised agent can complete it on your behalf.

Before you start:

Note:

If you are self-employed, a working director or a partner, you also need a business application — and it must be approved before your residency application. See making a business application.

Check the rules apply to you

The new rules apply to applications made on or after 6 October 2025. Check who the new rules apply to.

Check if you can apply

Make sure you meet the criteria — including the salary, accommodation, age and vetting requirements. Check if you can apply.

Gather your documents

Collect your employment contract, evidence of where you’ll live, proof of age and your official vetting form. See documents and evidence.

Apply online

You apply for residency in Gibraltar online. Submit your application using the Start button at the bottom of this page.

Pay the application fee

After you submit your application, you’ll be sent a payment link by email. The application fee is £250, plus £250 for each dependant you include, and it is non-refundable. If you’re self-employed or your business has traded for less than 12 months, you’ll also need to pay a deposit. See fees and deposits.

Vetting and decision

Your application is checked, including vetting and good standing. You must be of good standing, and the Government can refuse an application on public policy, public health or public security grounds.

You’ll be told the outcome of your application. Decision timescales will be confirmed. If your application is refused, you can appeal — see detailed guidance and FAQs.

After you’re approved

Your residence permit is renewed each year. Find out how to keep it valid in your residency.

You will be taken to the online application form to complete and submit your application.
